The Scarlet Letter was one of the first widely-produced books in America and has long been considered a classic of American literature. The story follows Hester Prynne, a woman in a Puritan colony in New England who conceived a daughter out of wedlock and is forced to wear a scarlet letter A on her clothing as punishment for the rest of her life. What follows is a story of complex themes including revenge, religious legalism, and sin and guilt that are explored in Wenders’ film adaptation of the American literary staple.

The film program is made possible in collaboration with Wim Wenders Foundation and Goethe-Institut with the support of the German Embassy in Pristina.

All screenings are free and shown in their original language with Albanian and English subtitles.
